Team Shelley joined together on a steamy Saturday morning at the 2nd race of the Kennesaw Grand Prix Series with the Dream Dash 5K, benefitting the Kennesaw Teen Center. The run/walk route traveled through Kennesaw's downtown Main St. and through Swift Cantrell Park. The race was professionally timed and was a Peachtree Road Race qualifier (GA1103OWC). Participants crossed the finish line to join a post race party on the City Plaza (as above!) Elder Law Firm was a sponsor of the event.

Through Our Hearts group builds community

Fourteen gathered Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. to share ideas and efforts around serving those in need. Kennesaw Police Chief Bill Westenberger welcomed those at the monthly breakfast at First Watch in Kennesaw and Shelley Elder began with the introductions of her visitors, Celine Esmeir, Susan Parker and Ellen Kennerly.

Westenberger shared that a new steering group including stakeholders from Kennesaw and Acworth has been formed to discuss and address the rising incidence of violence in area schools. Mentoring programs and the notion that coordination among those programs should be pursued further was also discussed.

The group will meet again on Tuesday, July 11, (a week later than usual due to the July 4 holiday) at First Watch.

Shelley Elder introduces KSU Women's Basketball Coach Agnus Berenato at Thursday's Women's Business Network Luncheon at Fusco's in Acworth.

She's "phenomenal," and "one-of-a-kind," said Shelley Elder as she introduced Kennesaw State University Women's Basketball Coach Agnus Berenato at the monthly Women's Business Network luncheon at Fusco's Via Roma May 18.

The women's group — part of the Acworth Business Association and started by present ABA President Danielle Hildebrand and Kelly Wilson of Edward Jones in January — hosts a speaker each month for its growing membership.

Berenato thanked Elder for her "tremendous support" of the women's program at KSU and called her active engagement there "extraordinary."

"I don't think of myself as a coach," said Berenato. "I'm an educator." What should women do going forward, in her estimation? "Plan your work and work your plan." She says it is vital for women to help women. "We can do ANYthing!"
